How is the Course Structured?
The course structure is aimed at developing all four skills of the English Language, namely Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
The course is offered at five levels:
1- Entry Level 1
2- Entry Level 2
3- Entry Level 3
4- Level 1
5- Level 2
There is no entry requirement for Entry 1 or Pre-Entry. For other courses, achievement of the proceeding level will be mandatory. In all cases, students will be given an Initial Assessment. Please also bring with you proof of any prior learning when you come for the Initial Assessment.
All courses are offered for adults (18+) only.
The classes are offered in small groups (no more than 12 students per group) as we believe that smaller groups allow for better interaction and equal attention for all individuals.
We also offer 1-1 classes.
At the moment, the South London Learning Centre operates on a flexible basis. This means that there are no specific term dates, rather we will work with every student to provide a timetable suited to their individual availability. This might change in future.
We are open every day of the week except Sundays. We are closed for Christmas and Boxing Day. There also will be holidays for Good Friday and Easter Monday.
The Guided Learning Hours and Course Options:
The guided learning hours (GLHs) for all courses vary between 48- 60 that spread along 3 months. GLHs include class hours; they do not include HW and Research time, which might equate the GLHs. This implies that a certificate of Entry Level 2 can be offered to a complete beginner, after a course completion of 6 months/2 months depending upon the course option.
If you wish, upon completing your lessons you can take an assessment. There are two types of assessment; one is the internal assessment which will cost you £25, or the external exam with the respective awarding body, which will cost you £50. However, an assessment is not mandatory.
Afterwards, you will be provided with a letter of completion. You can then either continue your lessons for the next level of ESOL, or repeat the same level if so advised depending upon your assessment results.
